Why SSBs have PPDT
The Picture Perception & Discussion Test is the SSB's screening filter on Day 1. Only candidates who clear it stay on for the Psychology, GTO and Interview tests.
The Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PPDT) is a screening test held at the SSB on the first day of the SSB cycle. Only candidates who clear this test are retained to face the main tests — Psychology, GTO and Interview — over the next four days.
What the main tests require
These three tests are comprehensive personality tests designed to assess the Officer Like Qualities in candidates. Candidates need acceptable levels of perception, communication and confidence to face them. Without these traits it will be very difficult to perform in the second stage.
Why a screening filter exists
The assessors at the SSB aim to recommend candidates who have adequate calibre and potential. They do not like to waste their efforts on candidates who cannot perceive things properly or express themselves with self-belief. That is why the PPDT is used for the screening process.
