Cracking PPDT
The PPDT has three stages — perceive the picture, narrate your story, then lead the group discussion. Cracking it means performing consistently well in all three.
The Picture Perception & Discussion Test runs in three stages on the morning of Day 1. Each stage tests something different. You don't get to the discussion if you mishandle the picture, and you don't get screened in unless you contribute in the discussion.
Perceive the picture and write the story
You need to perceive the picture properly for its setting, characters and situation. Identify a hero, set a goal or a problem for them, and write a story with meaningful, positive actions and a successful outcome.
Narrate the story clearly
Narrate your story briefly in one minute with good power of expression, clarity and confidence. Maintain eye contact without looking at the assessors and keep an erect posture. Listening well to others' stories during this phase will help you reframe and organise your thoughts and participate well in the discussion that follows.
Lead the group discussion
Take initiative, participate actively in the discussion, and influence the group with common sense, quality of ideas and composure. Be natural and spontaneous in your utterances. Focus on getting the group to come to a consensus after accepting and filtering ideas.
Remember to perform consistently well in all three stages, and especially in the group discussion, to get screened in.
