Why SSBs have PPDT

The Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PPDT) is a screening test held at the SSB on the
first day of the SSB cycle. Only candidates who clear this test are retained to face the main
tests (Psychology, GTO & Interview) in the next four days.

These three tests at the SSB are comprehensive personality tests which are designed to assess
the officer-like qualities (OLQs) in the candidates. Candidates require acceptable levels of
perception, communication and confidence to face these tests. Without these traits, it will be
very difficult for them to perform in the second stage.

Also, the assessors at the SSB aim to recommend candidates who have adequate calibre and
potential. They certainly do not like to waste their efforts on candidates who cannot perceive
things properly or express themselves with self-belief. That is why PPDT is used for the
screening process.
